The depletion of world rock phosphate reserves will restrict the amount of food that can be grown, a situation that can only be compounded by the production of biofuels, including the potential large-scale generation of diesel from algae.

Cheaper alternative fuels from algae, bacteria, the biomass or the waste stream. Cheaper renewable energy from solar, wind, hydro, thermal, tidal and/or nuclear to replace the oil that will not be there some day.
Biofuel, bio gasoline, biodiesel from algae grown with help of the local waste treatment plant. Rid the planet of human waste and grow algae for fuel at the same time.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle is, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using ‘other’ forms of transportation or car pool to lower your cost for transportation.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Everyday farmland that once grew food is being bought and converted to housing that we dont need. But thats ok as our egos for living in a brand new overpriced house is much more important then our stomachs! You want to know the problem in our country? Look in any mirror for the answer.

The author tries to bully your thinking with pseudo facts to conform to his way of thinking. I do not accept his premise's and do I agree with his conclusions.

So if we use the phoshate to grow fuel we can't use it to grow food.
Food vs fuel again. Not the why to go.
If that leaves us solar and wind power we are going to be in sad shape as we are starving for food and fuel.

So, in other words, we should not fear peak oil but fear peak rock phosphate?

We should fear the lack of jobs and squandering of taxpayer money more.

Dick Tracy and Buck Roger type gadgets were seen as pipe dreams. Look where we are now? So who knows where we will be for sure by the time this potential crisis is real?

I want to hold the key to the future, that's why I am secretly waiting on a patent for my anti-gravity, anti-matter, power machine. No worries I will not use my new found power and money to rule the world, maybe the block I live on though, perhaps.

You could run a similar story that solar may never hold the key to the future(too expensive). Or electric cars(too limited, too expensive, the technology is always just around the corner). Or ethanol(too expensive, does not reduce oil consumption).

Someone is finally starting to understand the importance of Phosphorus in the life cycle of life on the planet. But this concern is not new. I first read about it in an essay by Isaac Asimov back in the 70s. Asimov called it "The Bottleneck of Life."
