It depends on deals out there. If Big 3 is giving out good rebates or gov't gives tax credits, it may worth it to buy new one. But it has to be really good deal, $500 on rebate won't do it...

I have a 11 year old minivan and an 8 year old hybrid (yep, one of the first). Several years ago, my plan was to buy a new car this year and give one of the older ones to my now 16 year old when he got his license. However with the state of the economy, there won't be any purchases this year.

With the deals and rebates and Tax Write-offs, this could be the time to upgrade to a more fuel efficient vehicle.

due to uncertainty of the market I will put it off for a while (and had really no need for a new car usually do not buy brand new) and see what happens. The big 3 are making me wonder if I want to stay with a US made in the future. Instead I made some large purchases for the house and grounds that invest back into the economy in several directions.

If I was planning on buying (am not this year) it would be a very reliable used 3 to 4 year old car coming off lease with maintenance records.

Since I would FAR RATHER make a domestic car ("Big Three"), it follows that I would be better off BUYING ONE. It just so happens that I believe it is better for our economy and the quality is even better.

WE are not considering buying ANY car this year, new or used. We probably would buy a 1-2 year old used car if one of ours conked out unless a new car deal was to good to pass up. Top quality used cars are selling at a premium now and it might be cheaper or about the same for a new one.

If the auto companies would lower there prices to compete with the off shore manufactures there problems would be over!

I don't want a new car. I like the one I am driving right now, thank you. The only thing I don't like about it is the engine - it uses too much gas and pollutes too much. I wish the government would bank role an after market company that could build a 2009 engine for my 1994 Lumina. That would go a long way to saving the environment and keep us on the road as well. Any takers?

I am hoping to get at least four years down the line before even considering buying another vehicle. Even then it will be used.

With only 9% planning on buying a new or cheaper new car, sure is not the news Detroit wants to hear as they ask for more "loans" from the taxpayers.

Already tried to purchase a new 2008 pickup. It had a sticker of $21,000 marked down to $12,000. I was willing to make $4,000 down payment. I couldn't get credit with an 840 plus score, and a 740 FICO score.
