If Big 3 is giving out good rebates or gov't gives tax credits, it may worth it to buy new one. But it has to be really good deal, $500 on rebate won't do it...

Several years ago, my plan was to buy a new car this year and give one of the older ones to my now 16 year old when he got his license. However with the state of the economy, there won't be any purchases this year.

The big 3 are making me wonder if I want to stay with a US made in the future. Instead I made some large purchases for the house and grounds that invest back into the economy in several directions. We probably would buy a 1-2 year old used car if one of ours conked out unless a new car deal was to good to pass up. Top quality used cars are selling at a premium now and it might be cheaper or about the same for a new one.

I like the one I am driving right now, thank you. The only thing I don't like about it is the engine - it uses too much gas and pollutes too much. I wish the government would bank role an after market company that could build a 2009 engine for my 1994 Lumina. That would go a long way to saving the environment and keep us on the road as well. Any takers?

It had a sticker of $21,000 marked down to $12,000. I was willing to make $4,000 down payment. I couldn't get credit with an 840 plus score, and a 740 FICO score.
