I could give a better answer, if the national average was stated in the question. I would say, somewhat below average... on the whole.

I drive a Toyota Prius and it gives me a solid 47 mpg. I have driven from Valencia CA (LA area) to Laughlin NV and have recorded 50.2 mpg for the 280 miles. Wonderful car.... best one I've had (of the 14 new ones that we have bought)

I would say that I drive about 200 miles per week driving to and from work and doing errands. I try to consolidate my trips as best as possible. My work driving is about 40 miles per day or about 200 miles per week. For personal driving, I use about 10 gallons of gasoline per week. For work driving, I use about 15 gallons of diesel fuel per week. Overall, I think I'm below the average in both categories.
