From the article; "The budget proposes cutting more than US$40 billion in oil, coal, and natural gas subsidies."
=========================
It is about time that we stop giving the oil and gas companies our tax money!

A compelling argument on why there should be subsidies on various alternatives to what we have now ahead of when they are needed is contained within this mini essay, almost as an after thought as a throw away line. This also has answers to many other issues and current questions, BESIDES the idea of 'peak oil' http://physics.ucsd.edu/do-the-math/2011/11/peak-oil-perspective/
An interesting analysis of cost/benefit/opportunity/drawbacks for all sources of energy, alternative AND conventional in contained in this matrix. http://physics.ucsd.edu/do-the-math/2012/02/the-alternative-energy-matrix/

Gnusman, I'm sure you were spouting off that high gas prices were Bush's fault in 2008.
And there are just as many democrats (if not more, especially your beloved Senators from California, and the former House Speaker) that are in "bed" with corporate interests and speculators.
Get off your high horse--for once.
Oil and wind subsidies should disappear...
But, don't stop there... All energy subsidies, grants, loan guarantees, tax credits, and tax rebates need to eliminated.

At the end of the day, subsidies & tax breaks both leave less money in the governments "care" for the use of the people. This country has been in debt sense FDR was president. I just can't see how either party has done anything about it sense then. Can you?

Absolutely correct again doeslayersr.
If Obama and the Dems really wanted to do something they could impress on the Fed to quit printing money and devaluing the dollar and they could suspend the federal gas tax. They are in control and have been since 2006.

After all...the GOP loves high gas prices so they can blame Obama while their "patrons" (another word may be political "johns") make billions off what taxpayers have to pay at the pump.
If the GOP was really interested in lowering gas prices...they would have restricted outside groups, firms and companies from speculating on oil.
So every vote for the GOP is a vote for high gas prices......and high corporate profits....... while financially castrating consumer buying power.

Good. All true subsidies and rebates need to end. Let the product/service survive or not on its own merit and feasibility.
However, the article is wrong (not a surprise when you consider the source) as the oil industry is not subsidized and never has been. They use tax credits which are available to ALL companies, not just oil companies.
They do not received subsidies or humongous grants or tax payer secured loans like the so called "green" energy companies do.

If we eliminate all subsidies then all users can pay for the product instead of just the golden 53% that pay taxes. Just a thought.

When they say subsidies it sounds like the government is giving them tax dollars which isn't the case. All they did is reduce the tax rate. So the companies are paying less taxes, but are still paying them. Smoke and mirrors. Lets try less government and less taxes for all.

I'm not sure I agree with the term "subsidy." Tax insentives for exploration are different from direct handouts ala Solyndra.

Obama had better get his head out of the sand and start paying attention to what work and does not work. He should be supporting Natural Gas not some lame maybe or if stuff. While he is at it he should quit wasting money on trash like sloyndra and the others that have cost the taxpayers about 3 billion bucks.

Nobody, no group, no product should get subsidies. Let the market stand on it's own value and worth as defined by the people that need the product.

INVESTORS have moved out of FINANCIAL STOCKS into OIL FUTURES which should be ILLEGAL.
INVESTORS have moved BILLIONS of DOLLARS into OIL FUTURES to BET that OIL will be higher in MONTHLY BLOCKS but they NEVER TAKE DELIVERY instead SPECULATORS continuously ROLLOVER their DELIVERY DATE to the NEXT MONTH.
